| A sparkling 1,500 metres from Philippa Aukett highlighted the second day of the Inter-county Championships at Bedford, which was again seriously affected by rain.
For the second successive year Holly Weaver travelled to the championships only to discover when she arrived that the pole vault had been cancelled because of the conditions.
Philippa’s run came in the 1,500 metres where she ran a fine race to take the silver medal in 4:39.56, an excellent time in the conditions.
Ben Warren just missed a medal in the 5,000 metres finishing an excellent fourth in 15:09.26 while Leanne Buxton putt the shot 11.90m to finish sixth in the shot putt.
There was another sixth placing for Jason Hussain in the 200 metres where after winning his heat and placing third in the semi final he had his fastest clocking of the day in the final recording 22.10.
Helen Parsons survived her semi-final of the 400 metres but was drawn in the outside line for the final and finished eighth in 57.98.
In the 3,000 metres walk Ian Richards made his Sussex debut at these championships and finished eighth in 14:28.98 while in the One-mile event Scott Harris finished ninth in 4:32.2sec.
